Michelle Frances was born on the 25th of September 1979 in the City of Manila and is the middle child in a brood of three.

At a young age, she showed interest in arts and started making her own versions of skits and tales. Her creativity transcends from her roots who are either painters or writers particularly those who are said to be left-handed. At the age of eight (8), she was determined to be any of the three alternatives which she thought she would be one day: (1) catwoman; (2) spy; or (3) black ninja. When it was explained to her that there was no particular course in college for her three (3) options, she decided to shift into becoming a movie director someday.

She was in 5th grade when her teacher in Filipino asked her to try-out for the Young Writer’s Club. She wrote her first piece in Filipino and was surprised when the result was announced: she got the part for Editor-in-Chief in Tagalog, although she had no idea what her responsibility would be.

In 7th grade, she competed for the first time in the Young Writer’s Competition held in San Beda Manila. She failed to bag any place and left broken hearted. She then lost her spirit in writing again and concentrated in painting instead.

She never joined the school newspaper anymore when she reached high school. Except for writing short poems, she vowed never to hold the pen again. Michelle Frances concentrated in joining dance troupes and the cheering squad where she thought she excelled more. Unnoticeably, her creativity in writing slowly dwindled to nothing.

As her pre-law course, she took up AB Communication Arts major in Broadcasting at the Philippine Women’s University. There, she was forced to write again from scripts down to documentaries. It was at that instance when her interest in writing finally returned. Her radio drama scripts for the series of “Gabi ng Lagim” consistently bagged the first place in their radio drama competition and their group was frequently invited in youth gatherings in different schools to perform their piece.

She was in fourth year college when she was asked to write public service advertisements for a politician from Mindanao. When she graduated, she landed on a job entirely different from the course she took. Desperate to make it in print and have a book published one day, she kept on writing and sell manuscripts for a minimum amount. Her short story entitled “Upos” was finally noticed and published in Liwayway Magazine in November 2002. Still, she clings to her dream of having her first book published someday.

She formally entered law school in 2002. Despite her busy and stressful schedule, she managed to find time in writing love stories and sells them for a minimum. Her story entitled “The Unforgiven” about a priest who fell in love with his best friend’s fiancé could have been her first book to be published. She, however, turned down the offer and refused to sign the contract when it was disclosed to her that the publisher will be printing the story under a different author’s name. Desperate and discouraged, she left the publisher’s office and vowed never to return in that place again. Up to date, the “Unforgiven” remained in her box, untouched and unedited.

Michelle Frances passed the 2007 bar exams and took her oath as a lawyer in the summer of 2008. Although she was offered a position as a public defender and as a clerk of court in the City of Manila, she chose to stay with his father’s office and help him with the cases. Her exposure to criminal cases inspired her to write her novel entitled “Lethal”.

She searched the internet for a probable publisher who would be interested with her story particularly that “Lethal” is not the usual love story that local readers are used to. The story is a suspense drama that concentrated in exposing corruption, not only in our government but more particularly in our justice system.

There, she found BW Publishing and became at ease with the publisher and the other writers. It was in the said publishing company where she felt to be a part of the family and entrusted her story entitled “Lethal”.

Presently, Michelle Frances is a litigation lawyer in the mainstream Manila and is also married to a lawyer. Despite her busy schedule, she still finds time in finishing the second part of “Lethal” entitled “Beyond reasonable Doubt. Just like her first novel, “Reasonable Doubt” will be part of BW Publishing’s collection.

She is a jack-of-many-trades but writing has always been her strongest passion.

She is crazy for anime, movies, drama and books. Growing up, watching anime, movies and reading books were the main influences of her creativity.

She contributed poems for her school paper when she was in elementary. She never really thought about joining a publication or maybe, she was too green for writing formally.

It was not until her 6th grade that she developed the passion in writing more than just poems. Her influences gave her lots of ideas and made her want to start a story of her own, thanks to Goosebumps, Animorphs, Winnie the Pooh, Sailormoon and the rest of the books and animes she couldn't even remember.

Until now, she has the plot of her 6th grade story in mind and she had been developing it for years and is still planning to finally write it someday.

She devoured books as they came when she got to high school. Going to a school with smart people,\ gave her an opportunity to meet like-minded people -- fellow bookworms who were willing to lend her books. She read children's books to not so rated ones throughout high school. She read everything she came across with.

By this time, she was also writing novels of her own in notebooks (that get stolen by avid fans/classmates that can't wait for the next few chapters). She became an essay writer and won a few contests.

It was in college that she made a decision that would have developed her formal writing career further but became a great risk for her creative writing.

She looked at it as, if one trains for formal writing, it would directly damage your creative writing skills. It is no joke and students of formal writing (and some of her close friends) can testify to this.

She took Journalism in college. She believes that you can't be creative in journalism unless you are writing a feature article. But it ends there. Somebody can't be too creative as to write fiction. Journalism had always been about facts.

What made her hold on to her creative writing was her passion and heart. she continued writing stories and developed plots for future novels. She was lucky to have very supportive friends that helped her move forward.

She aimed to walk the line between formal and creative writing just line Lino Brocka did. But it was easier said than done.

She joined the university publication to make use of her education and she started writing for BWR for her passion.

She also tried her hand in online blogging, public speaking and film making.

She became many things as she matured. Anime and manga became great source of plot and character inspiration for her. Books and novels became her training manuals. Music inspired her to not just make poems but write lyrics for songs.

All these things that she has learned made her realize that the world still has a lot of things to offer her and her writing.

Today, she is working as a call center agent. Her time is divided between work, writing, watching anime and movies and reading manga and books.

Her current dream: to meet the god of time to have more hours in her day to do all of the above mentioned.

Yara Alonso has always loved reading; shopping and scouting books has been her only vice.

She was part of the school organ both her elementary and highschool days as the News Editor.

It was during her college days that she discovered her inner passion and talent when she joined essay writing contests (and winning, Palanca Awards for short story included) - writing.

But due to inevitable circumstances, her short-lived stint in writing was put on hold as she became part of the call center industry.

She needed to finance her younger brother's college education. But now that she has produced an engineer brother, it's high time she gives in to what her heart truly desires, about time she goes back to her one true love - writing.

On a normal day, you could find her writing, reading, listening to alternative and rock music, checking her Betty Boop or book collection's inventory, crafting bags, pouches, writing pads, bookmarks, greeting cards, frames and lampshades, planning an out of town trip that would either be island hopping or mountain hiking or simply cooking or baking for her loved ones.

She is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
